The Lithuanian Parliament Approved An Amendment On The Deployment Of Nuclear Weapons

To pass it, the Sejm will hold two more votes three months apart.

The Seimas (parliament) of Lithuania has approved the removal from the Constitution of the ban on the deployment of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, on the country’s territory, according to LRT.

99 members of parliament voted in favor of the amendment, while 13 voted against it. Five members of the Seimas abstained from voting.

The amendment was referred to the relevant committees for review; the Seimas will hold two more votes, three months apart, to adopt it. According to Parliament Speaker Juozas Olekas, the first vote on the amendment is scheduled for October 6, and its final adoption is set for January 12, 2027.
