The British newspaper The Sun has published stories about how Russian commanders are torturing their own soldiers. One of the victims is believed to be Belarusian.

In this video, a soldier is hanging upside down from a tree: he has been tied by his feet with a rope to a branch. The commander repeatedly beats him with a stick, while the soldier tries to cover his genitals with his hands.

“I’m going to turn you into mashed potatoes. Got it?” the officer shouts.

It is believed that the victim is from Belarus because, as the British explain, “he is addressed as ‘bulbash’—a derogatory nickname for Belarusians”.

There is no other information about this man—his name, unit number, or where the video was filmed—in the reports.

It is unknown exactly why he was punished. According to reports, he may have refused to go into battle—and in the Russian army, they kill people for that.

This is not the only video. In the second video, the commander of a Russian unit kicks a soldier who is curled up on the ground. In the third, a soldier is tied to a tree and beaten with a stick on his bare back. Here, the victim is from Bashkortostan, and he is also addressed in a derogatory manner: “You, Bashkir.” His “offense” is that he didn’t chip in with the others to buy drones.

“So you decided to save money by not chipping in, f***! Your buddies are scraping together their last pennies for drones, f***… They’re chipping in, damn it!”—shouts the torturer. The beaten soldier, in agony, replies: “I’ll chip in, I’ll chip in!”
