Since The Beginning Of The Year, Ukraine Has Liberated 800 Km² Of Territory

In 2026, the Ukrainian defense forces liberated 800 square kilometers of occupied territory.

This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

The head of state noted that the occupiers’ total advance amounts to only 90–100 square kilometers, which is significantly less compared to previous years, when Russia occupied 3,000–4,000 square kilometers per year. The President of Ukraine emphasized that right now, on the battlefield, “almost everything has come to a standstill” for the Russian army.

He added that, in exchange for these minimal territorial gains, the Russian army has lost approximately 260,000–270,000 servicemen since the beginning of the year.

Zelenskyy emphasized that although human casualties do not signify defeat for Moscow, the situation for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is by no means successful.

“The situation on the battlefield is unfavorable for Putin. He is not winning, but he is not losing either, because for him, human casualties do not mean defeat,” said the head of state.
