Ukraine Exceeded Its Gas Storage Target By Nearly 1 Billion Cubic Meters

Ukraine’s underground storage facilities have accumulated approximately 15.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas—the highest figure in the past five years and nearly 1 billion cubic meters more than the government’s target for the heating season.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine reports, citing a statement by natural gas market analyst Mikhail Svischo of ExPro Consulting .

“We currently have about 15.5 billion cubic meters of gas in storage—the highest level in the past five years,” he said.

According to Svischo, the government had expected to accumulate 14.6 billion cubic meters—a volume that, based on baseline estimates, was supposed to be sufficient to get through the winter under various scenarios.

“Let me remind you that by the end of August, we had already reached the government’s target of 14.6 billion cubic meters,” the analyst noted.

Thus, there are now approximately 900 million cubic meters more in storage than the baseline winter target had anticipated.

“Consequently, we have 15.5 billion cubic meters—already nearly a billion more—which should certainly be enough to get us through the heating season,” Svischo emphasized.

At the same time, the situation remains dependent on security factors: new Russian attacks on gas production and other energy infrastructure could quickly shift the balance.
