The U.S. State Department has instructed American diplomats to refer to artificial intelligence (AI) as “superintelligence.” This was reported by the Associated Press, citing internal correspondence from the State Department.

“Following the president’s speech at the General Assembly, please change all references to ‘artificial intelligence’ to ‘superintelligence’ in our documents,” the report states.

On September 19, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he dislikes the term “artificial intelligence” (AI) and proposed three alternative names. The American leader suggested calling the technology “higher intelligence,” “extreme intelligence,” or “supreme intelligence.” According to the head of state, these options better describe the rapidly evolving technological revolution.
