A Minsk resident said that at a coffee shop, he was asked to “spit” into his drink.
A Belarusian man posted on Threads about a conflict at the Varka coffee shop at 106 Dzerzhinsky Avenue in Minsk. According to him, the owner asked him to leave because he hadn’t ordered anything, and when he tried to place an order, she allegedly suggested he “spit” into his drink. The café commented on the situation, according to "Zerkalo".
“Did they offer you to SPIT into your drink at ‘Varka’ too? I was recently waiting for a friend at the coffee shop. The owner demanded that I leave because I hadn’t ordered anything. When I tried to place an order, they refused and said that the manager here ‘can do whatever he wants.’ When I asked for an iced latte, the owner suggested spitting in it. Then she called security. I called the police and filed a report, but my complaint on Varka’s official page went unanswered,” wrote user nazarmaeroksii.
Later, representatives from Varka responded to him in the comments. They stated that they had received explanations from the owner and employees of the coffee shop and had also reviewed the surveillance footage.
“We have already received comments from the café’s owner and employees, reviewed the surveillance footage, and examined the circumstances surrounding the call to security and the police. Specifically, security was called by the café’s owner in connection with the situation that arose,” the chain wrote on its official account.
They also commented on reports of possible undocumented employees:
“We would like to note separately: the information regarding undocumented employment and the lack of necessary documents has not been confirmed. Based on the results of inspections and audits, no violations were found at the coffee shop: employees are officially registered and possess the necessary documents. The remaining circumstances will also be investigated. We will continue to resolve this matter directly with those involved, without making the details of our private communications public,” Varka stated.
Later, the author of the post shared a private message from the coffee shop’s owner. She apologized for her rudeness and the tone of her communication, acknowledging that “I shouldn’t have spoken that way,” and suggested “leaving the incident in the past and not returning to this conflict.”
“The owner apologized, and I forgave her,” he wrote.
