Belarusians Will Be Able To Apply For A Lithuanian Residence Permit In Armenia And Georgia

Belarusians will be able to apply for temporary residence permits in Lithuania at the offices of external service providers in Armenia and Georgia. This was reported by "Zerkalo" citing the Lithuanian Ministry of the Interior.
“To enable employers to continue recruiting the missing workforce from Belarus, citizens of that country are being given the opportunity to apply for temporary residence permits in the Republic of Lithuania at the offices of external service providers in Armenia and Georgia,” the ministry stated.
The ministry emphasized that if this opportunity had not been created, Belarusians would no longer be able to come to Lithuania under the pretext of work starting November 1. On that date, amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Foreigners will take effect.
The changes prevent foreigners who entered Lithuania solely on a Schengen visa or a national visa from another country from applying for a residence permit for work or study.
Starting November 1, only those who have the following will be able to apply for a Lithuanian residence permit for work or study:
- a valid residence permit or a Lithuanian national visa,
- a valid residence permit from another EU country or a Schengen country,
or legal grounds for visa-free stay.
There are no external service providers in Belarus, so it is not possible to apply for a Lithuanian residence permit based on employment from within our country.
Currently, Belarusians apply for a temporary residence permit for employment while in Lithuania at the Department of Migration.
Since November 1, foreigners, including citizens of Belarus, with certain exceptions, will no longer be able to submit applications for a residence permit within the territory of the Republic of Lithuania, a situation would have arisen in which Belarusians would have been unable to submit documents either abroad or in Lithuania. Therefore, our fellow citizens have been given the opportunity to submit applications at the offices of external service providers in other countries, specifically in Armenia and Georgia, LRT reports, citing a comment from the Ministry of the Interior to the BNS news agency.
