Zelenskyy On The Attack By A Ukrainian On A Monastery In Poland: "We Are Shocked By This Evil"

Ukraine is counting on a swift and thorough investigation of the crime.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is shocked by the attack carried out by a Ukrainian citizen in the Polish city of Jarosław and expects a swift and thorough investigation into the crime.

The Ukrainian head of state wrote about this on Telegram.

The president stated that a horrific crime committed by a Ukrainian citizen took place at the Benedictine sisters’ abbey in Jarosław.
“We are shocked by this evil. At this time, we know that a priest was killed and several other people were injured. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We wish all those affected a speedy recovery,” said the President of Ukraine.

He emphasized that the perpetrator of this atrocity must be held fully accountable in accordance with the law.

“We expect a swift and thorough investigation into all the circumstances. It is painful that people are capable of such horrific crimes. Justice must prevail,” the head of state said in a statement.

On the morning of September 24, a 31-year-old Ukrainian citizen attacked four men and one woman with a knife on the grounds of the Yaroslavl Abbey on Benediktinskaya Street in the Polish city of Yaroslavl. A priest was killed in the attack.

The Polish prosecutor’s office reported that the Ukrainian man entered Poland from Germany on Thursday. He was heading toward the border crossing in Korczowa but did not cross the border. The man entered the monastery grounds and then went into the kitchen area. It was there that he likely encountered the first people who were subsequently attacked.

The Polish government has promised severe punishment for the suspect.

The Ukrainian Embassy expressed confidence that the competent authorities will thoroughly and objectively establish all the circumstances of the tragedy.
