The Ukrainian Armed Forces Are Still Holding Their Positions In The Kursk Region

Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold their positions in the Kursk Oblast of the Russian Federation, near the towns of Novy Put and Politotdelsky. This was stated by the commander of the 8th Airborne Corps, General Dmitry Voloshin, in an interview with “BBC Ukraine”.

“Yes, they’re still there (positions of the 8th Airborne Corps in the Kursk Oblast). I can even tell you exactly where. It’s the area around the village of Novy Put, for example, where we control the entire forest surrounding it. We also control the area around the village of Politotdelsky and the adjacent forest. Yes, these are small, isolated pockets in the Kursk region, but they’re still there,” he said.

According to the commander, about a year ago the Russians were behaving more aggressively and wanted to drive the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the Kursk region, “but they left a significant number of personnel there and abandoned that objective.”

“Of course, we didn’t advance any further either, because we have our own problems to deal with. From a military standpoint, they may have done the right thing: why “fight” over a couple of kilometers of their own territory—which, in essence, won’t make any difference—when they could try to expand their zone of control into our territory? The Russians are trying to create a ‘buffer zone’ here and are looking for weak spots, but they aren’t succeeding,” Voloshin noted.

He added that their main target is the city of Sumy, the regional capital on the border.
