The U.S. Mint announced on Wednesday that one-dollar coins featuring U.S. President Donald Trump have entered circulation and are available for purchase on its website.
This was reported by ABC News.
According to the announcement, the coins commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and, in addition to Trump’s portrait, feature the inscriptions: “1776-2026,” “LIBERTY,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
A set of 25 one-dollar coins costs $61. Meanwhile, a bag of 100 coins costs $154.50. And these coins can be used as legal tender.
“These coins are also in circulation, so check your change. Collect them today,” the Mint stated.
It is already known that the coins are not made of real gold but have a gold-colored coating of manganese brass. The total number of coins issued is unknown; however, 250,000 of them bear a special “July 4” mark, which was accidentally stamped onto them and included in the rolls and bags.
Currently, there is a limit of two items per family. This limit will remain in effect until 2:00 p.m. today (until 9:00 p.m. Minsk time).
The media also notes that this is the first time in history that a sitting U.S. president has been featured on a coin intended for everyday circulation.
The last and only time the image of a living president appeared on currency was 100 years ago. Specifically, in 1926, a 50-cent silver coin featured the image of then-President Calvin Coolidge. However, those coins were not intended for everyday circulation.
