Pashinyan: We Are Not Opposed To The Withdrawal Of The Russian Military Base From Armenian Territory

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Yerevan would not object if Russia decided to withdraw its military base from the country. This was reported by “Armenpress”.

“‘We have never once during this time (during the SCO summit in Bishkek—RBC) raised the issue of the Russian military base, and it’s not that we consider the presence of the 102nd Russian military base on Armenian territory to be vitally necessary’, Pashinyan said.

He noted that if Moscow decides to withdraw the base, Armenia will not stand in the way. At the same time, Yerevan is ready to discuss with the Russian side the possibility of keeping the base open if Moscow wishes to continue its operations.

The Russian 102nd military base, located in Gyumri and Yerevan, was established in accordance with the Treaty on the Legal Status of Russian Armed Forces Stationed in Armenia.
