Putin Suddenly Started Talking About Peace

There have been no negotiations between Russia and Ukraine since February of this year.
Putin stated that a peace agreement with Ukraine is possible, but at the same time accused Kyiv of actions that, in his words, complicate the resumption of negotiations, according to the news agency Reuters.
“Is there a chance? In my view, yes, there is,” Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. According to him, the U.S., China, and a number of other countries are ready to facilitate a peaceful resolution. At the same time, the Russian leader emphasized that the final decision must be made by Moscow and Kyiv.
Putin’s latest statement was prompted by recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure and Kyiv’s warning about risks to civilian aviation in Russian airspace. The Russian president called the strikes on merchant ships and the alleged threats to civilian aircraft “acts of state terrorism.”
Ukraine, for its part, is warning airlines and insurance companies about the dangers of flying over Russia due to drone activity. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukrainian forces do not intend to attack civilian aircraft and will strike only military targets. Kyiv has also appealed to the International Civil Aviation Organization to recommend a ban on flights over Russian territory.
No negotiations have taken place between Russia and Ukraine since February, and the front line has shifted only slightly in recent months. At the same time, both sides are increasingly resorting to long-range strikes against each other’s territory, and hostilities at sea are becoming increasingly intense.
Putin also confirmed that Moscow is maintaining contact with Donald Trump’s administration. According to him, negotiations are taking place, among other channels, between Russian and American intelligence agencies, as well as through representatives of the U.S. president.
“We are in favor of restoring full-fledged relations with the U.S.,” Putin said, adding that much now depends on Washington’s position.
