The New BMW 3 Series Has Surprised Everyone With Its Unusual Design

The German automaker unveiled the eighth generation of its popular model.
The 2027 BMW 3 Series, with the internal code G50, marks the start of the model’s eighth generation and is the first car designed in the BMW Neue Klasse style.
The Bavarian automaker BMW has officially unveiled the new generation of gasoline-powered 3 Series models, according to Car and Driver.
Exterior
As observers note, there hasn’t been such a significant design change for the 3 Series since the release of the E90 generation in 2006. The car is taller and wider, with a length of 4,765 mm and a wheelbase of 2,860 mm.
The model has lost the traditional narrow “nostrils” of the radiator grille. Instead, the 3 Series has adopted a Neue Klasse-style design—the same as that of the iX3 electric crossover, where the grille and headlight elements are integrated into a single unit.
At the same time, the front-end aesthetics have been preserved, with its characteristic “shark nose” reminiscent of the BMW 6 Series from the 1970s and 1980s, while the proportions hark back to the 2002 model.
Interior
Inside the cabin, the latest technologies blend harmoniously with familiar design elements.
One of the most notable improvements is the introduction of the brand’s signature Panoramic Vision digital display, which projects information important to the driver onto a narrow strip stretching across the entire front panel at the base of the windshield—from one A-pillar to the other.
A 17.9-inch touchscreen is located in the center of the dashboard, facing the driver. This is a hallmark of the 3 Series models, reminiscent of the days when this area housed physical climate control buttons, an analog clock, and a cigarette lighter.
The gasoline-powered 3 Series is built on the significantly upgraded CLAR II platform, which also underpins the X3, M5, and other models.
According to the manufacturer, the chassis has received numerous improvements compared to the previous generation. The car features sharper steering and a wider track (both front and rear).
Powertrain
In Europe, the base model will be the BMW 318 with a 2.0-liter engine producing 156 l.s., while the flagship will be the all-wheel-drive M350 with a 3.0-liter inline-six producing 426 л.с. and 560 Нм.
With the electric motor included, total output reaches 443 l.s.
The turbocharged 3.0-liter engine is the latest version of the BMW B58 family (inline-six).
The increased power output of the powertrain provides a noticeable improvement in acceleration: the car goes from 0 to 100 km in just 3.6 seconds. The BMW M350 xDrive’s fuel consumption (WLTP combined cycle) is 8.2 L/100 km.
As for the electric version of the BMW i3 50 xDrive, its electric range (WLTP) is 729–912 km.
Production of the new 3 Series has already begun in Dingolfing, Germany, and the sedan will also be assembled in Mexico.
Sales Launch and Prices
Sales will begin in the first quarter of 2027.
The base model with a four-cylinder engine will start at $51,250, and all-wheel drive (AWD) will cost an additional $2,000.
Meanwhile, the price for the high-performance M350 xDrive model with a six-cylinder engine will start at $67,250.
