Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso's new contract with Aston Martin has made him the highest-paid Spanish athlete in terms of base salary, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The team did not disclose the exact amount of the contract with the 45-year-old driver, but according to the newspaper, he will receive about €40 million—this will be the highest salary of his career and the third-highest in Formula 1 after Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), who will earn approximately €62 million and €53 million per season, respectively.

In terms of base salary, he will outearn “Barcelona” stars Lamina Yamal (€22 million, excluding bonuses) and Rodri (€27 million).

Alonso has been racing for Aston Martin since 2023; this season, he is currently in 19th place in the drivers’ standings. He won the Formula 1 championship in 2005 and 2006.
