Range Rover Has Unveiled Its First Electric SUV

The new model can travel more than 500 kilometers on a single charge.

Land Rover has officially unveiled the Range Rover Electric—the first all-electric version of its flagship SUV. The British manufacturer announced this on its website.

Visually, the Range Rover Electric retains the familiar design of its gasoline and hybrid counterparts. At the same time, engineers made a number of specific changes to improve aerodynamic performance. Specifically, the radiator grille, the design of the wheel rims, and the shape of the lower body were redesigned. All of this helped increase the electric vehicle’s range.

The model is equipped with two electric motors with a combined output of approximately 550 k.s. and all-wheel drive. The car accelerates from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds. The 118.5 kWh drive battery provides a range of about 535 km. At a 350 kW charging station, the battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes, and a 10-minute charge provides a range of up to 220 km.

A special traction control system was developed for the new model, capable of responding to wheel spin in just 50 milliseconds—on any type of surface. According to the manufacturer, this is 100 times faster than similar systems in vehicles with internal combustion engines. At the same time, the Range Rover has not lost any of its off-road capabilities. The new model can climb slopes with a gradient of up to 45 degrees and ford water up to 900 millimeters deep.

The Range Rover Electric is now available for order, with a starting price in the UK of 154,070 pounds (approximately $207,945).
