Musk is preparing to launch a network of driverless taxis.

Tesla has begun offering rides in its Cybercab robotaxis in Austin, Texas, according to Reuters.

As reported on Thursday, September 3, the company announced the launch of the service in “select areas of Austin, Texas,” where passengers will be transported in a two-seater Cybercab—a model without a steering wheel or pedals.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk emphasized that the Cybercab is set to play a decisive role in transforming the company into the market leader in autonomous vehicles.

Over the past few weeks, Tesla has been actively promoting the event in Austin, presenting it as an exclusive Cybercab showcase. The event attracted a great deal of attention from both investors and brand enthusiasts—some of whom traveled to Texas specifically to see the gold-colored cars with butterfly doors in person.

Currently, there are 45 Cybercabs registered in Texas as part of Tesla’s autonomous fleet, which totals approximately 420 vehicles. Musk himself dubbed the event in Austin “A Storm of Cybercabs,” hinting at the project’s rapid expansion.

Cybercab is one of the key elements of Musk’s large-scale strategy to create a global network of robotaxis.
