U.S. President Donald Trump spoke out on the social media platform Truth Social in favor of renaming the state of New Mexico. Prior to this, a hoax had circulated online claiming that such an executive order had been signed.

“Many have suggested changing the name of New Mexico—one of the states with the highest levels of election fraud in history—to ‘New America.’ That sounds much more prestigious and beautiful for the residents of this potentially incredible state,” Trump wrote, attaching a video generated by a neural network to the post.

The White House’s official account on the social media platform X reposted the image. According to The Hill, Trump’s proposal was criticized by Democrats from New Mexico, while Republican senators called the new name “catchy.”
