Politico: Nigel Farage Plans To Visit Ukraine To Prove That He "Doesn't Like Putin"

The leader of the Reform UK party has been repeatedly accused of sympathizing with the Russian dictator.

The leader of the British right-wing populist party Reform UK , Nigel Farage—who has repeatedly been accused of sympathizing with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin—plans to visit Ukraine.

This was reported by Politico, citing two officials from Farage’s party.

The two officials told the publication that talks had taken place between the party and its Ukrainian partners regarding the possibility of a visit

Farage’s opponents often cite a comment he made back in 2014, in which he said he “admires” the Russian dictator as a “strategist.” And 10 years later, he sparked a backlash during the general election by claiming that it was the West that “provoked” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In addition, last year in Wales, the leader of the local Reform UK chapter was arrested for accepting bribes from Russia. This only reinforced accusations against Farage of supporting Putin.

A party source cited by the publication said they were aware of talks regarding Farage’s visit to Ukraine, but it is unclear at what stage the discussions are.

A poll conducted by More in Common last year shows that while an overwhelming majority of all voter groups in the UK support Ukraine, only 26% believe Farage shares that position. Another 21% of respondents believe he is more sympathetic toward Russia.

Reform UK hopes that Farage’s visit to Ukraine will help dispel these perceptions to some extent.

As Politico reports, the visit could go a long way toward dispelling the impression that Farage sympathizes with Putin. At the same time, such a trip could “upset quite a few of our members.” In October, he called Putin “a very bad sort” and stated that the UK should shoot down Russian planes that violate British airspace.
