“I attended such actions before, carrying a portrait of my kidnapped husband, but it has been the first time when I was forced out with rough blows: militiamen known Viktor from his portraits, they known who I am,” Zinaida Hanchar, wife of vice speaker of the 13th Supreme Council Viktar Hanchar, commented on the action of solidarity at the anniversary of his disappearance.
“This time young riot militiamen didn’t only snatch away portraits and EU flags. They told very offensive words: ‘Adopt us, if you have nobody to take care of!’ one of them shouted to me,” Zinaida Hancjar told in an interview to BBC.
On September 16, on the anniversary of Viktar Hanchar and Anatol Zavadsky’s disappearance, a rally was held in Minsk’s twin city Eindhoven. It was dedicated to forcibly abducted Belarusians. The rally was held by the initiative “We Remember” in cooperation with a number of Dutch NGOs. 4 oaks were planted with the held of city authorities in the centre of Eindhoven in memory of forcefully disappeared in Belarus.
