Bogdan Borusiewicz: Only economic sanctions are effective

The Speaker of the Senate of Poland, Bogdan Borusiewicz, says only economic sanctions are effective in relation to the Belarusian authorities.

“The European Union has so far used sanctions against three entities related to Alyaksandr Lukashenka. Only these measures are effective. Symbolic political sanctions do not give anything,” Bogdan Borusiewicz said today in an interview to Polish Radio Program 1.

As said by him, Poland has a significant vote in this issue, but rather tough stance of the European Union gives result. “We should adhere to this position,” Borusiewicz underlined.

The Senate Speaker said the verdict to journalist Andrzej Poczobut was a “scandal” and noted it’s impossible to agree with the court decision.
