It is rather a symbolic gesture that should be appreciated in Brussels and Berlin: the Iraqi side is clearly not working for the “thank you”, German-Belarusian historian Alexander Fridman writes in his Telegram channel.

Baghdad demonstrates to the EU its readiness and determination to fight illegal migration. And they went far in their ostentatious zeal in Iraqi Kurdistan: they could have taken off the official flag of Belarus quietly at night, but they did it in the daylight, and even allowed filming. They decided to purposefully humiliate the official Minsk in Erbil.

Earlier this week, the Lukashenka regime had the opportunity to close its offices and avoid yesterday's shame. The stubborn people from Minsk, however, did not take this step.

And what about Makei's department? It is silent and surely will remain silent in the future. This is Baghdad and Erbil, not Vilnius and Riga; this, as Russian and Belarusian propagandists like to repeat, is a different thing...
