Belarus Raises Retirement Age

The changes will come into force on January 1.
Yesterday, the "government" of Belarus shared the following plans: in 2022, the average monthly retirement pension for non-working pensioners will be 581.2 rubles. But the retirement age will also be raised again as part of the pension reform, which started in Belarus back in 2017. Since then, the retirement age for men and women began to increase by six months each year. As a result, retirement age for both sexes will increase by three years.
The onliner.by website reminds what awaits pensioners in 2022.
Women will be able to retire at 58, men - at 63
In 2016, men retired at the age of 60, women - 55. Next year, 2022, Belarusian women will start retiring at age 58 and men at 63. This is the final stage of the reform to increase the retirement age, from 2023 it will not be increased (but this is not certain).
Many experts now believe that the second stage of the reform will begin in 2023, as a result of which the retirement age for women will be equal to that of men. The Belarusian government considered such an option at the stage of the implementation of the current reform, but then it was abandoned.
The insurance length of service - 18.5 years for both sexes
The insurance length of service is the number of years for which contributions for an employee were received by the Social Security Fund. Before 2014, it was 5 years, in 2014 it increased to 10 years, and in 2015 - to 15 years. It also began to increase annually for six months during the reform. By 2025, it will reach 20 years.
If this length of service is not there, a person will receive a low social pension instead of a retirement pension. But there are exceptions (for example, mothers with many children).
Also, in 2021, a decree came into force that reduced the number of those who did not have enough years of service. If men over 65 and women over 60 have worked at least 10 years of insurance, they will be entitled to a labor retirement pension (not social). Its size will be 73% of the highest value of pensioner's minimum budget (now it is Br218) plus 3% more for each additional year of insurance experience. But to do this, pensioners need to go and write an application to their department of the Social Security Fund.
