Lukashenka Loses

The European Union has taken a clear position on the dictator.

Polska The Times discussed the situation with migrants on the Belarusian-Polish border with the Polish Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Paweł Jabłoński (translation - polskieradio.pl).

According to the Polish diplomat, Lukashenka's main goal is to destabilize the European Union, especially Poland and the Baltic States. Lukashenka treats these countries as enemies. First of all, because these very countries were the ones to strongly condemn election fraud and mass repressions in Belarus by the European Union and NATO. Lukashenka wants to take revenge on them by opening borders to everyone. He was counting on the crisis of 2015 to repeat.

However, Lukashenka is losing, the diplomat says. It relates to the change in Europe's attitude. In 2015, Brussels criticised countries that opposed the opening of borders. Now the leadership and the society in France and Germany have seen that openness was a mistake.

The EU has learnt the lesson of 2015 and will respond to threats from a dictator. "Sanctions will be imposed on people linked to the organisation of migration flows," a Polish publication quoted the dignitary.
