It was idle for over six months.

After more than six months of inactivity, the Belarusian nuclear power plant was connected to the power grid. This was reported by the press-center of the Ministry of Energy.

The first power unit of the BelNPP was launched after the completion of scheduled maintenance work and additional tests.

“There is a phased increase in capacity — currently it is 400 MW. In accordance with the test program, the operation of the unit will soon be carried out at different power levels,” the press service of the Ministry of Energy reported. Judging by the way the process of reaching 100% power usually goes, it may be accompanied by new station outages from the network.

Important to note, the BelNPP was disconnected from the power grid on April 25 this year due to scheduled preventive maintenance. It was planned to be completed in July, but the station was not launched on time. In August, officials announced that preventive maintenance had been completed, although Power Unit 1 had not been connected to the grid. And in October, the Ministry of Energy again announced that it was continuing “scheduled” repairs.

Since the introduction into commercial operation, the station has been idle for almost 55% of the time. And in two years of operation, the BelNPP generated a little more than half of the electricity planned for one year.
