Part of the military is dissatisfied with the dictator's support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
Express reports citing a letter from Belarusian military personnel that Belarusian dictator Aliaksandr Lukashenka faces the threat of a military coup connected with rapprochement with Moscow and support for dictator Vladimir Putin in the war against Ukraine.
Senior officers of the 5th Special Forces Brigade warned Lukashenka against sending Belarusian soldiers to fight in Ukraine in a letter available to the edition. They said that such a move would be a 'pure suicide'.
Moreover, they accused the Russian ruler of 'destroying sovereignty'.
The officers allegedly declared their support for Ukraine, saying that the two countries have always had friendly relations, and condemned the Kremlin's war as 'absolutely unprovoked'.
“Currently, officers of the 5th Special Forces Brigade are observing an extremely serious violation of Article 1 of the Constitution of Belarus by the top political leadership of Russia. According to this paragraph, the Republic of Belarus exercises supreme and full power over its territory. It also enjoys independence in domestic and foreign policy,” the servicemen noted.
Belarusian officers also stressed that Russia's occupation of Ukraine and its attempt to involve Belarus in the unprovoked war against a sovereign state can only be considered as the destruction of Belarusian sovereignty.
“Having entered the war against Ukraine, Belarus will be excluded from the community of civilized states and will become an international outcast for many years to come. To join Russia in its fight against Ukraine would be pure suicide,” the letter reads.
Belarusian dictator Aliaksandr Lukashenka regularly threatens that he will bring Belarus to the war with Ukraine.
He groundlessly stated that the West allegedly seeks to “level the front so that it passes Smolensk-Pskov, Smolensk-Bryansk-Kursk and there to Rostov lines”, and Belarus allegedly could become a victim, and allow war for the western regions of Ukraine.
He also warned that “what is happening in Ukraine is the beginning” and allegedly “one of the elements of a major redivision of the world”. He also threatened Ukraine with an 'immidiate' retaliatory strike in response to imaginary threats.
Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russia was preparing provocations to involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine.
According to the Defence Intelligence, Russia is strengthening its military presence in Belarus again, in particular, military aviation. Ukraine also has information about possible provocations from Belarus, according to Deputy Interior Minister Yevhen Yenin.
The Russian military and tanks advanced to the north of Ukraine from the territory of Belarus, missile systems are also located there to shell Ukraine. Russia uses Belarusian airfields for military aircraft, infrastructure and hospitals.
