The top of cynicism.
Chief physician of Minsk Emergency Hospital Volha Sviatlitskaya tried to explain why there's a shortage of doctors in Belarus. She also recalled the small salaries - but unexpectedly found a plus in it, writes nashaniva.com.
"In 2022, The Lancet published that there's a shortage of 6.5 million doctors in the world. And already this year it was voiced that there is a shortage of 14 million doctors. This is associated with objective factors of the changing world," she said on the air of the First National Channel of Belarusian Radio.
Sviatlitskaya recalls that recently Italians came to their hospital and complained that Italian medical universities are empty.
- They said that young Italians do not want to become doctors. In response to our surprised question - this is one of such a good countries where you would like to be a doctor and get a lot of money - they said that no. Today there are quite a lot of specialities where you can get more money with less responsibility.
Volha Sviatlitskaya emphasised that the share of responsibility in medicine is high. She admitted that people do not want to work in this sphere for objective reasons.
However, she also found a plus in the fact that Belarusian doctors have small salaries:
- It is good to see that those who stay in medicine now or who come to medicine now are sincere. These are those people who have high spirituality. That is, those who wanted to leave for money, they are gone.
And those who stayed, they want to cure, they want to help people. And you know, such a selector is not bad in some ways.
