At the vote in the European Parliament.
Most of the ruling coalition in Germany supported the resolution in the European Parliament on the transfer of Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
Bild reports this.
During the European Parliament meeting in Strasbourg, politicians from the SPD, FDP and the Greens voted mainly for the resolution that Kyiv needs the above-mentioned missiles.
This happened against the backdrop of the fact that the Bundestag deputies, on March 14, did not decide to transfer the Taurus to Ukraine.
The vote in the European Parliament took place on a resolution on “the need for unwavering support for Ukraine from the EU.” Paragraph 11 of the document emphasized that: “The country especially needs highly developed air defense systems, long-range cruise missiles such as Taurus, Storm Shadow and Scalp systems, modern combat aircraft, various types of artillery and ammunition, as well as drones.”
As the publication writes, during the voting:
451 deputies supported the resolution;
46 opposed;
49 abstained.
Also, representatives of the FDP and the Greens voted unanimously for the resolution.
“The vote in Strasbourg shows how isolated the traffic light government in Berlin is with its line. Although we, the CDU/CSU, welcome the vote of the EU deputies from the SPD, the Greens and the FDP, presenting opposing positions in Brussels and Berlin is a deception of voters,” said Daniel Caspary, Chairman of the CDU/CSU group in the EU Parliament.
Taurus for Ukraine
Last year, Ukraine invited long-range Taurus missiles from Germany, capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers.
However, Berlin refuses the transfer. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz himself is against it — he explained this by the fact that such deliveries would allegedly require the presence of German soldiers on the ground.
Scholz also stated that if Taurus were provided to the Ukrainian Defense Forces, the missiles “if used incorrectly” could hit one of the targets in Moscow.
