Unknown Assailant Shoots Several Shots At Slovak Prime Minister Fico

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was fired at in the town of Gandlova after a government retreat. He was taken to the hospital by helicopter.

The representative of the country's Minister of Internal Affairs, Matej Neumann, confirmed that an attempt was made on the head of the Slovak government.

According to Pluska, Fico's condition is very serious. The portal claims that the Prime Minister was hit by two or three bullets and was wounded in the stomach and chest. Up to five shots were reportedly fired.

According to the publication's journalist, he did not see the incident, but was nearby and heard several shots. He then saw guards lift Fico from the ground, put him in a car and drive away.

According to witnesses who were at the scene, the Prime Minister approached the people who were cheering him, and that's when several shots were fired. After this, the head of government fell to the ground.

European politicians condemned the assassination attempt on the Prime Minister of Slovakia. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen strongly condemned the “vile attack” on Prime Minister Fico.

“Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine democracy, our most precious common good,” she wrote in X.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said in X that he was “deeply shocked by the news of the cowardly attack.” “Violence has no place in European politics,” he emphasized.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also condemned the attack on Fico.

“We strongly condemn this act of violence against the head of government of our neighboring partner state. Every effort should be made to ensure that violence does not become the norm in any country, form or sphere. We sincerely hope that Robert Fico will recover quickly and express our solidarity with the people of Slovakia,” the Ukrainian president wrote.
