According to the Ukrainian president, this will happen this year.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is planning to deploy troops in Belarus this year and try to drag the country into war. In particular, he could threaten Poland or the Baltic states from there.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told reporters after a press conference with British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy.
“Countries themselves should decide how much to pay (we are talking about the level of defense spending to GDP — edit.). This is for their security. With Putin's ambitions, today we see that he is doing everything to continue this war. He will go further, he will think about other countries,” Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president expressed confidence that Putin will provoke other countries. In his opinion, Poland or the Baltic states could be next.
“This is not just another rhetoric. You will see in the spring, summer or fall that he will deploy forces on the territory of Belarus. And many Europeans, and maybe the US, will say that this is intimidation. This is intimidation of Poland, intimidation of Lithuania and other Baltic partners,” Zelensky emphasized.
He noted that he does not know whether there will be an invasion of these countries, but in any case, the Russian dictator will thus drag Belarus into war.
“Although, in my opinion, they have already been in the war. But their people are not, their troops are not. For now. But Putin really wants this. Therefore, I think that everything must be done to stop him,” the president emphasized.
The Lukashenka regime has been helping Russia since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Russian troops, aircraft and other equipment are deployed on the territory of Belarus, and regular military exercises are held.
In addition, the dictator of Belarus Aliaksandr Lukashenka announced the alleged deployment of Russian nuclear weapons and the Oreshnik missile on the territory of Belarus.
Today, Vladimir Putin submitted an agreement on security guarantees with Belarus to the State Duma for ratification. The document, in particular, provides for the use of nuclear weapons.
