Almost 40% Of Russians Called Themselves A "special People"

More than a third of Russians (39%) consider Russians to be a "completely special people". This follows from a survey by the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion Research (VTsIOM), the results of which are published by Vedomosti. According to the respondents, the "specialness" of Russians lies in their world outlook and spiritual values (22%), soulfulness (15%), rich culture (12%), Orthodoxy (12%), patriotism (11%), compassion (8%) and other qualities, writes The Moscow Times.

The greatest number of supporters of "peculiarity" was found among citizens from 45 to 60 and over 60 years old - 45% in each age group. Young respondents 18-24 years old believe in "specialness" least of all - only 23%. At the same time, 61% of respondents are of the opinion that Russians are the same people as all others. If in 2000 71% of respondents believed that the fate of Russians is harder than that of other nations, then by 2025 the figure has decreased by 2.2 times - to 32%. The majority of respondents (50%) agree that the fate of Russians is easier in some ways and harder in others (14% of respondents in 2000). Another 17% think that the fate of Russians does not differ from the fate of other nations. The survey was conducted by telephone among 1,600 adult Russians in May.
