Putin Withdrew Russia From The Convention On The Prevention Of Torture

The Russian Federation is sliding towards Stalinism.

On September 29, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin signed a law on Russia's withdrawal from the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture. The Kremlin website informs about it.

The report states that Putin denounced the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, as well as its protocols.

Putin's press service writes that the law was passed by the State Duma on September 17 and approved by the Federation Council on September 24.

The Kremlin also published a note in which it tried to argue for Russia's withdrawal from the convention, which Moscow signed on behalf of the Russian Federation on February 28, 1996, and ratified on March 28, 1998.

Allegedly, there are "discriminatory circumstances" in the form of the Council of Europe blocking the process of electing a new member of the European Committee on Torture from Russia, which "does not have the opportunity to fully and completely participate in the work of this monitoring mechanism."
