Richard Blumenthal also warned the American campaigns.
U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal criticized U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel. Blumenthal wrote about this in a post on the social media platform X.
“The president’s (Donald Trump – UNIAN) decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel is a disgrace and makes us complicit in Putin’s war against Ukraine,” Blumenthal said.
According to the senator, easing the sanctions is an attempt to mitigate the consequences of the chaos caused by the U.S. war in Iran. He asserts that only the economies of China and Russia will benefit from such a decision, and that it will result in the deaths of even more Ukrainian civilians.
He also called the agreement with Russian leader Vladimir Putin a stain on the U.S. reputation and stated that it contradicts Congress’s intentions, as enshrined in a bipartisan sanctions bill. The senator called on Trump to immediately reverse this decision.
“This agreement with a murderous dictator is a stain on our nation’s character, an insult to the memory of Lindsey Graham, and directly contradicts the intent of Congress as enshrined in our bipartisan sanctions bill. The president must immediately rescind this agreement,” the senator wrote.
Separately, he addressed American companies that might be considering profiting from cooperation with Russia, warning that Congress will be watching their actions.
“To American companies considering the possibility of profiting from Putin’s blood money: Congress is watching,” Blumenthal said.
