A column of smoke rises above the Ukrainian capital.
On the afternoon of October 10, Russia launched several ballistic missiles at Kyiv, according to online reports. Air Defense Command issued a warning about the strike a few minutes before it occurred. Explosions were heard over the city—possibly caused by air defense systems—and a cloud of smoke rose afterward, according to "Focus".
Information about Russia launching missiles from the Bryansk region appeared online around 2:00 p.m. Kyiv-based social media accounts reported at least three or four explosions and smoke over the city. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported a strike in the Obolon district: a restaurant was damaged, and debris fell into a courtyard between buildings.
The local public group “Real Kyiv” posted a photo showing a cloud of smoke rising above the possible impact site in the capital. Meanwhile, journalist Andriy Smoliy (reported three or four missile explosions. The first report of a ballistic missile/“Zircon” launch appeared at 1:55 p.m., and by 1:58 p.m., they had reached the capital’s Obolon, Podil, and Svyatoshyn districts.
The first salvo likely consisted of two projectiles, according to one of the posts. News of the second salvo broke at 2:02 p.m.: at 2:04 p.m., it was reported that the missiles had allegedly disappeared from radar near Nezhin, and a minute later—that they had reached Kyiv.
At 2:06 p.m., Smoliy wrote that “it will be falling” and warned of a possible strike on the Obolon-Vyshhorod-Kurenivka-Podil districts.
It can be roughly estimated that on the afternoon of October 10, Russia launched two salvos of four missiles each at Kyiv.
The Air Force has not yet reported what specific type of munitions the Russians used to strike the Ukrainian capital. The only information available is that a ballistic missile was launched from Bryansk at approximately 1:56 p.m.
