Whitcoff And Kushner Have Postponed Their Trip To Meet With Putin

The media cited the reason.

The visit by U.S. President’s Special Envoys Steve Whitcroft and Jared Kushner to Moscow to meet with Vladimir Putin has been postponed, according to sources Axios. The Americans were supposed to travel to Russia following talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Miami, which were cut short after Donald Trump announced a “diesel” deal with the Kremlin.

The reason for the postponement is the crisis in relations between Washington and Kyiv over the fuel deal and Trump’s statement that it is time for the Ukrainians to replace their president with someone who, in his words, will be able to strike a deal with Putin. According to the publication, the visit has been postponed at least until it becomes clear whether Ukraine and European countries are ready to support a “new unified proposal for Putin.”

Earlier, a knowledgeable U.S. official told Axios that Trump’s envoys had planned to visit both Moscow and Kyiv as early as this week to discuss a peaceful resolution. “We want to develop a new proposal that will be acceptable enough to make him [Putin] stop,” the source said.

According to an unnamed TASS source, Kushner and Whitcoff still intend to travel to Moscow, but so far “there are difficulties in understanding Kyiv’s position.” “They will come, but with a clear understanding of that position,” the source told the agency. He did not rule out that the visit could take place within the next two weeks.

Axios sources reported that during the talks in Miami—which were also attended by representatives from the EU and NATO—Whitcoff and Kushner worked on coordinating security guarantees for Kyiv from the West as part of a potential peace agreement. In addition, new proposals regarding a territorial settlement were put forward, but their details were not disclosed.

The talks were scheduled for October 9 and 10 but concluded after the first day.
