The U.S. president cited a figure of $250 billion.

The European Union paid $250 billion for Russian energy resources, but the media isn’t making a big deal out of it, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Truth Social.

“I made the right choice for the American people—AMERICA COMES FIRST!” he added.

On Friday, October 9, Trump announced an an agreement with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, providing for the entry of Russian diesel fuel into global markets. The U.S. Treasury Department exempted Russian diesel shipments from sanctions through April 2027. According to Trump’s statement, Moscow will supply more than 1.8 million metric tons of fuel in several phases and may then ship an additional 3 million metric tons.

European Union leaders criticized Trump’s decision. “Now is not the time to ease pressure on Russia, and Europe will not do so,” said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas.
