Finland had previously proposed suspending the issuance of visas.

The head of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna stated that his country is joining Finland’s call to suspend the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens throughout the European Union.

He wrote about this on social media platform X on Tuesday, October 13.

Earlier, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen called on EU member states to suspend the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens until the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“Estonia joins Finland’s call to suspend the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens throughout the European Union,” Tsakhna said in response.

He emphasized that while Russia continues to wage war, it is unacceptable for its citizens to “be able to travel unrestricted for tourism purposes within the Schengen Area.”

“Visa policy must reflect the full gravity of Russia’s aggression. The EU must continue to increase pressure on the Kremlin by all available means,” the Estonian foreign minister said.

He also called on the EU to adopt “the necessary implementing acts to impose a comprehensive entry ban on Russian combatants” as soon as possible.
