There have been fatalities.
During the shelling on the night of October 14, Russia attacked energy facilities in Kyiv, according to the city’s mayor Vitali Klitschko. Monitoring channels recorded a total of about 25 ballistic missiles. The Air Force has not yet reported on the operation of air defense systems and has not specified whether it received intelligence from the U.S. for early warning.
One person was killed and another was injured during the attack on Kyiv, Klitschko wrote on his Telegram channel around 6 a.m. on October 14. The Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi districts of the capital came under attack from Russia. The mayor warned that the ballistic threat to the capital persists. Later, the State Emergency Service clarified that three people were killed and 22 were injured.
According to Klitschko, the Russians attacked a number of energy facilities in Kyiv. The mayor added that power outages have begun in the capital.
“The missile attack on the capital continues. Stay in shelters!” the official wrote.
Klitschko’s post, published at midnight on October 14, discusses the aftermath of the Russian Federation’s evening ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. A Russian missile damaged a nine-story building in the Desnianskyi district: 21 people were affected (including an eight-year-old boy), 16 of whom were injured (four are in serious condition). A few minutes later, the mayor added that two people had died. Residents of the capital also noted that the Russians had struck the “Atlet” stadium.
Shelling of Kyiv—What Happened on the Night of October 14
The State Emergency Service reported that three people were killed in Kyiv as a result of the shelling on October 14. It turned out that several districts of the capital were hit by Russian forces. In the Desnianskyi district, a fire covering 400 square meters broke out, killing two people. In the Dniprovskyi district, a fire occurred in an abandoned building. In the Darnytskyi district, the grass at a stadium caught fire. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, there was also a small fire, which was quickly extinguished. In the Holosiivskyi district, a non-residential building was hit: one person died.
Rescue workers published a series of photos from the sites of Russian strikes on Kyiv on October 14. A high-rise building was captured in the photos: we can see flames in the apartments and a damaged facade.
Monitoring groups estimated that during the shelling of Kyiv on the night of October 14, Russia launched 10–12 “Zircon” missiles and 9–10 “Iskander” missiles, and 4–5 “Iskander” missiles during the evening barrage on October 13. The Air Force reported a ballistic strike, but there were no precise details on the number of munitions used. Meanwhile, DTEK reported emergency power outages in five districts of Kyiv—Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Pecherskyi, Solomianskyi, and part of Holosiivskyi. Due to the power outage, public transit services were disrupted, and the schedules for trolleybuses and buses were altered, according to a post on journalist Andriy Smoliy’s channel. In addition, there were disruptions to the metro service: on the “red” line, trains are running only as far as the “Arsenalska” station; on the “green” line, they are running only as far as “Vydubychi” and between the “Syrets” and “Krasnaya Sloboda,” while the “Blue” line remains unchanged for now.
