The White House chief hopes that the U.S. is close to ending the war.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he could impose 200% tariffs on Ukraine and Russia if they do not reach a peace agreement with each other. He made this remark at a campaign rally.

“We ended five wars thanks to tariffs. I said, ‘If you keep fighting, we’ll impose a 200% tariff on you’—and they stopped. We should probably do the same thing immediately with Ukraine and Russia. It never even crossed my mind. But we don’t buy enough from them to impose such a measure, so it won’t work,” the U.S. president said.

According to Trump, he hopes the U.S. is close to “putting an end to the catastrophe that has unfolded.”

“I hope we’re close to putting an end to the disaster between Russia and Ukraine. I hope we’ll put an end to it,” he said.
