Traffic Jams Gripped Kyiv Following The Russian Federation's Barbaric Shelling
- 27.10.2026, 10:35
The South Bridge is closed, and the subway is not running on all lines.
Following ballistic shelling on the morning of October 27, traffic in Kyiv has been significantly disrupted. Traffic jams are reported on both the left and right banks.
Here’s what’s known about the traffic gridlock in the capital—compiled by RBC-Ukraine in this article.
Where are the traffic problems?
The worst situation is on the left bank: the traffic jam in front of the closed South Bridge stretches all the way from the Kharkivskyi district.
Significant traffic delays are being observed on Kharkiv Highway and the Darnytsia Bridge (delays of up to 21 minutes).
Traffic is also heavy on the right bank. According to Google Maps, traffic jams have been reported on the following sections:
Stepan Bandera Avenue (10–15-minute delay);
Naberezhno-Rybalska Street (14-minute delay);
Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue (9-minute delay);
Zhylianska Street (9-minute delay);
Ivan Vyhovsky Street (8-minute delay);
Brest Avenue (8-minute delay).
Why did the traffic jams occur?
Major traffic jams on the left bank were caused by metro service restrictions and damage to the South Bridge, which is completely closed to traffic. On the “green” metro line, train service has been temporarily suspended between the “Osokorky” and “Chervonyi Khutir” stations.
The police are also blocking traffic on streets near airport arrival areas.
Changes to Public Transportation Schedules
To compensate for the lack of full metro service, the city has increased the number of buses on its routes.
In addition, Bus No. 72 is operating with route changes along Novokonstantinovska Street in both directions due to police road closures:
Toward the metro station “Kontraktova Ploshcha”: Tulchynska St. – Kyrylovska St. – Mykoly Kravchenko St. – then continuing along its regular route;
Toward the “Sineozerny” neighborhood: Mykola Kravchenko Street – Kirillovska Street – then continuing along its regular route.
As a reminder, on the night of October 27, Russia launched several waves of ballistic missile strikes against Kyiv.
The attack damaged a university dormitory (DTEU), the South Bridge, hospitals, and metro stations.
One woman was killed, and 15 others were injured.
