Garry Kasparov: The Situation Is Crystal Clear

An opposition figure warned Europeans.

One of the leaders of the Russian opposition, former world chess champion Garry Kasparov, stated that without an urgent increase in military and financial aid, Europe risks facing catastrophic consequences. In a column for The Telegraph, he warned: Ukraine is facing an extremely harsh winter, and without the necessary funding and weapons, the country could suffer defeat.

“In the fifth year of the war, Ukraine is facing an extremely harsh winter. The situation is crystal clear: if Ukraine does not immediately receive the necessary funding and weapons from Europe, it will lose,” Kasparov wrote.

In his view, should Ukraine be defeated, Vladimir Putin will dictate the course of future events. In that case, the opposition figure believes, Europe itself may face direct Russian aggression and prove unable to guarantee the safety of its citizens.

First and foremost, Kasparov proposed unfreezing Russian state assets held in Belgium and directing those funds toward arming and supporting Ukraine. Delay, he warned, could lead to far more serious consequences than is generally believed in Europe.
