Russia Is Targeting Bridges With Special Munitions, But They Have One Weakness

A military expert pointed out an important detail.

Russian forces are attempting to use special cumulative-cutting munitions against bridges in Ukraine—munitions capable of damaging metal structures—but their effective use requires a very high degree of accuracy, and the enemy is struggling with this. Nikolai Volokhov, commander of the TERRA unit within the 3rd Army Corps, spoke about this on the “Kyiv24” by Nikolai Volokhov, commander of the TERRA unit within the 3rd Army Corps .

He explained that in Russian “Geraniums,” the cumulative jet is directed at the cutting plane, which is precisely how the occupiers intend to cut through metal structures.

“If the military wants to blow up a bridge, they don’t just place a lot of explosives… That presents a separate challenge, because then the blast will, so to speak, ‘skim’ the structure, and the energy of the explosion won’t penetrate it. But cumulative munitions can ensure that the blast energy is concentrated on a power line pylon or a bridge pier,” the military official noted.

However, he emphasized, even that isn’t enough. After all, it’s also important that the cutting jet be directed straight at the support.
“And the Russians actually have major difficulties with this,” added Volokhov.
