A "blue Wave" Is Sweeping Across America

Commentators refer to it as a “tsunami” or a “typhoon.”

A blue wave is sweeping across America. Commentators are calling it a tsunami or a typhoon, while others see it as retribution for Trump’s mistakes. Democrats are scoring historic victories, including in Republican states. Trump writes on social media: the whole point is that his—Trump—wasn’t on the ballots. Earlier, he had suggested that voters imagine that the president’s name was, in fact, on the ballots. Apparently, that’s exactly what happened: it’s perfectly clear that this election is a referendum on support for the incumbent president.

One striking example of the conservatives’ crushing defeat: In South Carolina, according to projections, Democrat Annie Andrews is defeating Republican Darlene Graham in the race for a seat in the U.S. Senate. This marks an unexpected turn of events in a state that traditionally supports Republicans and has never elected a Democrat to the upper chamber of Congress in this century.

The situation regarding this Senate seat changed after Senator Lindsey Graham unexpectedly passed away in July. The governor of South Carolina appointed his sister, Darlene Graham, to serve out the remainder of her brother’s term. Later, at Trump’s insistence, Darlene Graham announced her intention to run for a full term in the midterm elections. And, apparently, she lost.
