NYT: Israel Informed The U.S. Of Iran's Plans To Use Chemical Weapons

Tehran is rapidly advancing technology in this area.
Israel has shared intelligence with the U.S. indicating that Iran may use chemical weapons against its enemies, according to The New York Times (NYT) cited informed sources. According to them, Israeli intelligence agencies have determined that Tehran is rapidly developing technologies that would allow it to arm missiles with chemical weapons and secretly deliver them to other countries for attack. At the same time, for a number of U.S. officials, this information evoked memories of the erroneous U.S. intelligence from 2002 regarding Iraq’s possession of weapons of mass destruction, which served as the pretext for the invasion of that country.
As a result, according to the NYT, some U.S. officials believed that the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was attempting to persuade the administration of President Donald Trump to resume large-scale military operations against Iran. At the same time, some officials urged that the warning be taken seriously. Israel also shared its assessments regarding chemical weapons with representatives from Gulf states. Some of them, too, expressed skepticism that Iran was planning to use weapons of mass destruction. They suspect that Israel is trying to push the U.S. and its partners toward an escalation of the war.
Officially, the White House stated that Trump will ensure the security of the U.S. and its allies in the event of any potential threat. Netanyahu’s office noted that “Israel is closely monitoring every threat emanating from the Iranian terrorist regime and is prepared to take action in response.” Iran had previously publicly denied possessing chemical weapons.
Prior to this, Axios sources reported that during their most recent phone call, Netanyahu demanded that Trump resume military action against Tehran immediately after the November 3 midterm elections. According to sources cited by The Atlantic, the White House chief may order strikes lasting anywhere from a few hours to several weeks. He may also maintain a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, threatening to resume hostilities. One scenario involves a multi-day campaign against Iran’s nuclear program. However, Trump has not yet made a decision regarding his next steps.
