The politicians were returned to Belgrade.

A plane that departed from Nikola Tesla Airport for Moscow on the evening of November 3 has returned to Belgrade. According to the Nova.rs website, those on board included former intelligence chief and former defense minister Aleksandar Vulin, the director of “Serbigaz” Dušan Bajatović, and the leader of the Serbian People’s Party, Nenad Popović.

Flight JU134 departed at 6:48 p.m. and was over southern Lithuania when the pilots were ordered to return to Belgrade, presumably for security reasons.

Later, reports emerged that Aleksandar Vulin had failed security screening at the airport, but someone had “smuggled” him onto the plane. The flight to Moscow is scheduled to resume after a thorough inspection of the plane and luggage, as well as a crew change.

Dušan Bajatović told N1 TV that, following the plane’s unscheduled return to Belgrade, a thorough inspection of all passengers and luggage was conducted. Although Aleksandar Vulin and Nenad Popović were also on board, Bajatović says he does not know the reasons for their trip, and that he himself was flying to Russia on business.

“I visit Moscow very often, and St. Petersburg even more often. I am the director of the company ‘Serbigaz’... Winter is coming, we’ll need additional volumes, and we need to agree on certain matters regarding flexibility and payments. Because the ALTA Bank issue has blocked some channels, primarily payments from Russians to us… As for why Popovich and Vulin went, I really don’t know,” he explained, noting that there were another 150 passengers on board the flight to Moscow, most of whom were Russian citizens.

Vulin also commented on the matter. He said that returning to Belgrade came as a surprise to him, since he had been asleep. According to him, he was flying to Moscow not as a tourist, but on business. “I’m going there to fight for the extension of the gas agreement—not for myself or for you, but for all citizens of Serbia,” Vulin said.
