The Five Major Trends in AI Gadgets for 2027.
Smart glasses powered by artificial intelligence could become one of the leading consumer tech products of 2027. They will be able to display messages directly on the lenses, translate speech in real time, assist factory workers, and record what is happening around them. At the same time, the widespread adoption of such devices will raise concerns about privacy and control over personal data, writes Forbes.
Columnist Bernard Marr highlights five trends that will shape the market’s development.
The first is glasses with built-in displays. Models such as the Meta Ray-Ban Display will be able to project information directly onto the lenses, turning the glasses into an alternative to a smartphone for quick everyday tasks.
The second is the battle for privacy. Devices with cameras and microphones raise concerns about covert recording. Some U.S. states are already discussing or implementing regulations governing the recording of people without their consent.
The third is workplace applications. Engineers and technicians will be able to receive instructions, view technical documentation, and access corporate databases without having to use their hands.
The fourth is competition among tech giants. Meta is already ahead of its rivals, but Google and Samsung are developing Android-powered glasses, Apple is also exploring this market, and Chinese manufacturers are preparing more affordable models.
Fifth—constant recording. “Appearing trustworthy and actually being trustworthy are two different things,” warns Marr, referring to companies that collect user data.
In the future, people will have to take into account that even an ordinary conversation could be recorded by the other person’s smart glasses.
