Berlin's role in the world could become more significant.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that Ukraine can still count on Germany, which will step up its support for Kyiv ahead of the winter of 2026–2027.
The German leader wrote about this on his social media account X.
Yesterday, November 3, Merz met in Berlin with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had flown there to participate in the 25th Berlin Security Conference.
The leaders discussed the situation on the front lines in Ukraine, Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, and new support packages.
The chancellor stated that Germany will provide Ukraine with a winter aid package. In addition, the parties discussed the transfer of PAC-2 and PAC-3 anti-aircraft missiles, as well as IRIS-T air defense systems, to Kyiv.
“Ukraine is on the brink of its fifth winter of war. Russia continues to launch attacks… At this time, Ukraine can fully rely on Germany. We will step up our winter aid,” said Merz.
For his part, Zelenskyy stated that Europe and Germany’s role in the world could grow, since, in his view, freedom and security on the Old Continent are impossible without Berlin—especially given that the U.S.’s role in the world may diminish.
