This led to a rise in gasoline prices.
U.S. President Donald Trump acknowledged that the Republicans’ defeat in the election is linked to the war with Iran.
“I think that’s largely true, because it led to a small but short-lived increase in gas prices,” Trump told reporters.
According to preliminary results from the midterm elections held on November 3, the Democratic Party regained control of both chambers of the U.S. Congress. According to NBC News estimates, Democrats could win 258 of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, with 218 needed for a majority. In the Senate, they secured 54 seats, compared to 44 for the Republicans. The results of two Senate races—in Mississippi and Alaska—remain undecided.
Trump has become the first U.S. president in 20 years whose party lost control of both chambers of Congress following midterm elections (the last time this happened was with George W. Bush in 2006).
