The child was receiving assistance from a foundation that was shut down by the authorities.
On the morning of November 3, six-year-old Timur Kuzmitsky from Grodno, who had been battling cancer for several years, passed away. In 2024, more than 150,000 euros were raised for the boy’s treatment in Germany. After surgery and chemotherapy, Timur went into remission, but in the fall of 2025, the disease returned. The news of the boy’s death was reported on the Onkodeti Instagram account, according to Hrodna.life.
“This morning, our little Timur’s heart stopped beating… A boy with an incredible smile, for whose life we fought so long. Until the very end, we believed, hoped, and waited for good news. Timur, we will always remember you this way—bright, kind, with that sincere smile,” the post reads.
Over 150,000 euros were raised for Timur’s treatment in one week
Timur Kuzmitsky was born on November 7, 2019. In March 2024, when the boy was four years old, an urgent fundraiser was launched for his treatment at the University Hospital of Rostock in Germany.
Timur was diagnosed with a stage 4 malignant tumor in his right kidney with metastases in his lungs. The surgery and subsequent treatment required 153,651 euros. The money had to be raised quickly, and the fundraising goal was successfully met. His parents thanked everyone who helped the family, as well as the volunteers at the KinderVita charitable foundation.
In April 2024, Timur arrived in Germany. He underwent a complex eight-hour surgery to remove the tumor and the affected kidney. Afterward, the boy continued his treatment, which included courses of chemotherapy.
In March 2025, the doctors informed the family that he was in remission. Timur rang a special bell used at the clinic to mark the end of active treatment.
Subsequent examinations also showed good results. However, in October 2025, Timur’s mother reported that her son had been diagnosed with metastases in his lungs again.
The boy was prescribed high-dose chemotherapy. The treatment was accompanied by complications, including a blood clot in his leg.
In March 2026, volunteers reported that, following another round of chemotherapy, no metastases were detected in the lungs during examinations. However, doctors continued to observe changes on head MRI scans. A bone marrow transplant and radiation therapy were planned for further treatment.
No information was provided about the subsequent stages of treatment—at that time, the Belarusian authorities shut down the foundation that had been helping the boy and his family.
Timur was assisted by the KinderVita Foundation, which was dissolved in Belarus
Timur was one of the beneficiaries of the KinderVita charitable foundation. The organization helped children with cancer and other serious illnesses: it raised funds for treatment, purchased medications and special nutrition, and supported families.
In March 2026, the Belarusian authorities dissolved KinderVita. The decision was made by the Main Department of Justice of the Minsk City Executive Committee. Representatives of the foundation disagreed with the authorities’ claims and stated that the organization operated transparently and regularly published financial reports.
After the dissolution, the team continued to help children in a new format. In July, volunteers announced that they were now operating as the “We Are Here” movement.
“We continue to stand by children undergoing treatment for cancer and their families,” the volunteers said.
