CNN: Hegset Could Face Impeachment Charges As Early As Next Week

Even Republicans are willing to vote in favor of his departure.
The U.S. House of Representatives may vote next week to impeach Pentagon chief Pete Hegset, according to CNN.
Some Republican lawmakers and party allies, concerned about the crushing defeat in the congressional elections, are trying to shift the blame for it onto the defense secretary. According to them, it was Hegset who played a key role in convincing President Donald Trump to strike Iran without having either a strategy for exiting the conflict or a plan to deal with the political fallout.
Republican Congressman from Kentucky Thomas Massie, one of Trump’s most consistent critics within his own party, told CNN that he intends to initiate a vote on Hegset’s impeachment when Congress reconvenes next week.
Several sources within the Republican Party said they expect support for this initiative. As a number of Republicans told CNN on condition of anonymity, Hegset actively advocated for the war and exaggerated the U.S.’s ability to achieve victory quickly and easily.
To remove the minister from office, the impeachment must also be approved by the Senate: two-thirds of the senators must vote in favor.
