The focus is on the island of Kharg.
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is considering expanding the U.S. military presence in the Middle East, including strikes against strategic Iranian targets.
According to CNBS.
This refers, in particular, to scenarios around strategic islands in the Persian Gulf.
According to media reports, the US may send additional thousands of military personnel to the region amid an escalating conflict with Iran. Various options are being considered, including operations on key sites that are critical to Iran's economy and military infrastructure.
In particular, the focus is on Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub, through which up to 90% of the country's oil supplies pass.
The US has previously carried out large-scale strikes on this island, destroying more than 90 military installations but not hitting the oil infrastructure.
Scenarios related to other strategic locations are also being discussed, particularly the island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz, which is important for controlling sea lanes.
With this background, Washington continues to build up its military presence in the region, the largest deployment of forces since the 2003 Iraq war.
The escalation around Iran is known to be taking place against the backdrop of the escalating situation around Tehran's nuclear program and the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's key oil supply routes.
And although the US president has recently announced a possible curtailment of military activities in Iran, he has not officially abandoned the ground operation.
